BJP MP Criticizes Opposition Over Bill Misinterpretation
New Delhi [India], April 2 (ANI): BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal on Tuesday criticized RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, alleging that he cannot even read to understand the Waqf Amendment Bill. Jaiswal’s remarks came after Yadav targeted the Union Government over the bill, calling it “Nagpur ka Kanoon.”
Jaiswal asserted that the bill would be implemented prospectively and accused the opposition of misleading the public for electoral gains.
“Tejashwi Yadav can’t even read to understand it. The doubts were clarified that this bill would be implemented for the future, that this is a prospective law… Actually, the entire opposition wants to scare people and get their votes. They will be exposed tomorrow,” Jaiswal told ANI on Tuesday.
Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 Set for Discussion in Lok Sabha
The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 is scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on April 2. The BJP has issued a whip to its MPs, ensuring their presence in the lower house to facilitate the bill’s passage.
Tejashwi Yadav’s Opposition to the Bill
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav reiterated his party’s opposition to the bill, emphasizing their commitment to constitutional values and cultural diversity. He accused the BJP of imposing “Nagpur ka Kanoon” and stated that the RJD would never accept such legislation.
“This is an unconstitutional bill. We are people who believe in the Constitution. The people of BJP want to impose ‘Nagpur ka Kanoon’; that is not at all acceptable to us. We believe in ‘Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb’; the diversity of our country is its beauty. From the beginning, we have opposed the bill in both Houses of Parliament, as well as in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council. We will oppose it even in the future. Such a bill will never be acceptable to us. Despite his health condition, Lalu ji joined the protest. So, we are clear that we will never accept the bill,” Yadav told ANI on Tuesday.
