New Delhi [India], May 7 (ANI): With India carrying out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed envoys and representatives of 13 UN Security Council member countries. He conveyed that New Delhi’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack has been “targeted, measured, and non-escalatory,” sources said.
Foreign Secretary Misri reportedly stated that the April 22 terror attack, which killed 26 people, was “escalation for us.”
Sources noted that Misri pointed out how The Resistance Front (TRF), a front for LeT, initially claimed responsibility for the terror attack but later withdrew the claim after realizing it would need to be shielded.
Misri conveyed that Pakistan tried to push for a UNSC statement, indicating a calculated strategy behind the move.
He reiterated that India’s response has been “targeted, measured, and non-escalatory,” with the precision strikes aimed solely at terrorist infrastructure. In contrast, Pakistan has focused on targeting civilian infrastructure in the Poonch area.
According to sources, Misri emphasized that Pahalgam was a barbaric terror attack, and the Indian response was strictly focused on terrorist targets. He cautioned that if Pakistan retaliates, India will respond accordingly, noting that shelling continues along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.
When queried about Pakistan’s possible reaction, Misri clarified that India has not targeted any military installations, only nine sites associated with terrorist outfits. He affirmed that if Pakistan targets civilian infrastructure, India will respond in kind.
Misri highlighted that India possesses credible evidence showing that the nine targeted sites were terrorist training grounds and launchpads. He stated that it is too early to assess casualties.
According to sources, Misri mentioned that the terror infrastructure targeted included complexes housing madrassas, mosques, playgrounds, dormitories, and training areas. These were known training grounds for terrorists.
Misri noted that India’s mission in the US is actively engaging with all UNSC members.
Earlier, at a joint briefing on Operation Sindoor, Foreign Secretary Misri described the Pahalgam terror attack as marked by extreme brutality, with most victims killed with headshots at close range, often in front of their families. He said that the attack was clearly aimed at disrupting the return of normalcy to Kashmir.
Misri stated that Indian intelligence agencies had been tracking terrorist activities and had raised concerns about potential further attacks on India.
“Our intelligence indicated that further attacks against India are impending. Thus, compulsion, both to deter and prevent, led to the early morning response. Our actions were measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible, aimed solely at dismantling terrorist infrastructure,” he said.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh reported that nine terror sites were successfully targeted and destroyed. She emphasized that the locations were selected carefully to avoid harm to civilians or damage to civilian infrastructure.
“Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to deliver justice to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and their families. Nine terrorist camps were targeted and successfully destroyed. The selected locations ensured no civilian infrastructure damage or loss of life,” Singh said.
Col Sofiya Qureshi presented videos showing the strikes destroying the terror camps.
The Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ early Wednesday. The Pahalgam terror attack had killed 26 people, and the government pledged severe punishment for the perpetrators. (ANI)
