New York [US], August 9 (ANI): Three people, including a woman, were injured after a 17-year-old gunman opened fire near a busy intersection in New York’s Times Square early Saturday, police told the New York Post.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the shooting occurred around 1:20 a.m. (local time) near 44th Street and 7th Avenue following a dispute between two individuals. Witnesses reported crowds scattering in panic outside the popular Hard Rock Cafe after hearing gunfire.
An 18-year-old woman sustained a neck injury, while a 19-year-old man and a 65-year-old man suffered leg wounds. All three victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are in stable condition, officials said.
Police apprehended the suspect at the scene and recovered a firearm. His identity has not been disclosed due to his age, and charges are yet to be filed.
This incident comes just a week after another mass shooting in Manhattan, where a gunman armed with an AR-15-style rifle killed four people—including an off-duty police officer—before taking his own life inside a skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue. The building, owned by Rudin Management, houses companies such as Blackstone and the National Football League (NFL).
Authorities said the shooter in last week’s attack arrived in a black BMW, entered the lobby, and opened fire, first killing the off-duty officer providing security. He then shot a man and a woman on the 33rd floor before turning the weapon on himself. The violence sparked chaos in Midtown during the busy rush hour.
