Washington, DC [US], June 6 (ANI) – Amid an escalating feud with US President Donald Trump over a recent federal bill, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has claimed that Trump’s name is mentioned “in the Epstein files” and alleged that this is the “real reason they have not been made public.”
In a post on X, Musk wrote, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT.”
In another post, Musk added, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Names of powerful individuals previously associated with convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein—including Trump, Prince Andrew, and former US President Bill Clinton—have appeared in court documents linked to Epstein’s years of sexual abuse, The Hill reported. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019.
Prior to his election, Trump had said he would have “no problem” releasing files related to Epstein. Several lawmakers have also demanded the release of these documents on social media following Epstein’s death. However, in 2024, Trump denied any association with Epstein, stating on X, “I was never on Epstein’s Plane, or at his ‘stupid’ Island. Strong Laws ought to be developed against A.I. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future,” according to The Hill.
Musk’s claims surfaced just minutes after Trump threatened to cancel government contracts with Musk’s companies. In response, Musk announced that SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft.
“In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” Musk posted on X.
On Truth Social, Trump stated, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget—Billions and Billions of Dollars—is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it.”
Earlier, Musk conducted a poll on X, asking whether the US needs a new political party “that actually represents the 80 percent in the middle.”
Musk previously criticized Trump for ingratitude as the two clashed over the bill. Trump’s remarks came during a meeting with Friedrich Merz, where he reiterated his support for the legislation and downplayed Musk’s concerns about the Electric Vehicle (EV) mandate.
“I’ve always liked Elon and that’s why I was very surprised. You saw the words he had for me. The words are great. And he hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I’d rather have him criticize me than the bill because the bill is incredible,” Trump told reporters.
“It’s the biggest cut in the history of our country. We’ve never cut. It’s about $1.6 trillion in cuts. It’s the biggest tax cut. People’s taxes will go way down. We’re doing things in that bill that are unbelievable—for small businesses, for people, for middle-income folks. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it.”
Trump further explained that Musk was upset due to cuts in EV subsidies.
“He’s upset because we took the EV mandate—which involved a lot of money for electric vehicles. They’re having a hard time with electric vehicles, and they want us to pay billions of dollars in subsidies. Elon knew this from the beginning. That hasn’t changed,” he said.
Trump also recounted a past disagreement when Musk recommended a Democrat to run NASA.
“He recommended someone he respected, but I didn’t think it was appropriate. We won, so we get certain privileges, and one of those is appointing people to key positions. NASA is very important,” Trump said. “General Kane will be choosing someone. We’ll check him out. But yes, I can understand why Elon’s upset.”
Recalling Musk’s visits to the Oval Office, Trump said, “He used to be here for a long time. He looked happy behind the Oval Desk. Even with the black eye, I offered him makeup. He said no, which I thought was interesting. Elon and I had a great relationship. I was surprised, because everyone here witnessed our wonderful send-off.”
“He said wonderful things about me—couldn’t have been nicer. He wore the hat. ‘Trump was right about everything.’ I am right about this great, big, beautiful bill—the biggest tax cuts in history, biggest economic development moves anywhere. Businesses are booming.”
Trump continued, “Elon endorsed me strongly. He even campaigned for me. But I’m disappointed. Elon knew the inner workings of the bill better than almost anyone. He had no problem with it—until he found out we were cutting the EV mandate, which amounts to billions. We want cars of all types—gasoline, combustion, hybrids. We want to sell everything.”
“He hasn’t said anything bad about me personally, but I’m sure that’ll be next. I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped him a lot.”
Musk responded bluntly on X: “False. This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”
He added, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51–49 in the Senate.”
“Such ingratitude,” Musk concluded in his post.
Musk’s dramatic intervention comes at a critical time for Trump’s self-described “big, beautiful bill,” which includes sweeping tax cuts and expanded military spending. The House of Representatives narrowly passed the measure last month, with only three Republican dissenters and solid Democratic opposition.
