Gangtok (Sikkim) [India], June 3 (ANI): Amid ongoing landslides and a recent bus accident in Sikkim, the state’s Tourism and Civil Aviation Department has advised tourists to exercise caution and plan their visits according to the latest road and weather updates issued by official sources.
With the monsoon season approaching, heavy rainfall is expected, which may cause landslides and block roads, especially on routes to remote tourist destinations, the department stated in an official release. Ensuring the safety of visitors remains a top priority for the government.
The release emphasized that in the event of road blockages or unforeseen situations, timely relief and evacuation support will be provided to stranded tourists.
Thanks to the continued efforts of the North District administration, particularly the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), the Chungthang-Phidang road in Mangan District has now been restored. Safe evacuation of stranded tourists has been underway since Monday.
Meanwhile, search and rescue operations continue for nine missing tourists, including the driver, involved in a tragic vehicle accident in Mangan District on May 19, 2025.
