Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 13 (ANI): In a chilling case that has shocked the residents of Tripura, the body of a young electrician associated with the Agartala Smart City project was discovered stuffed inside an ice cream freezer in the Narayanpur area of Gandacherra. The victim, identified as Sharif Miah from Indranagar, had been reported missing since the evening of June 8.
According to West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, the case broke open following a confession by the prime accused, Dibakar Saha, who was taken into custody during the investigation. Dibakar, who is allegedly the cousin of Sharif’s girlfriend, reportedly lured the victim under the pretext of gifting him a shirt brought from Kolkata.
Sharif was taken to the home of Joydeep Das in South Indranagar, where he was allegedly strangled to death. Police say the murder was premeditated, as Dibakar had purchased a trolley bag two days earlier, which was later used to transport the body to Gandacherra. The corpse was then hidden in an ice cream freezer inside a shop in Narayanpur.
The police have arrested several individuals in connection with the murder. Alongside Dibakar, those taken into custody include Nabaneeta Das (25), Animesh Yadav (21), Joydeep Das, and Dibakar’s parents, Dipak and Debika Saha. Investigators believe that a romantic conflict and past disputes involving Sharif, his girlfriend, and Dibakar may have fueled the brutal crime.
However, Sharif’s mother dismissed claims of a strained relationship between her son and his girlfriend. She told the media that the two had remained in close contact on the night of his disappearance. In fact, it was the girlfriend who had informed her that Dibakar had brought a shirt for Sharif and invited him to pick it up.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, while the police continue to investigate the underlying motive behind the gruesome killing. The incident has triggered a wave of grief and outrage across the city, sparking discussions about rising violence among youth and betrayal under the pretense of close relationships. (ANI)
