Washington DC [US], June 26 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has called for the immediate cancellation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial, branding the proceedings a politically motivated “witch hunt” and pledging US support for the embattled Israeli leader. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump voiced his outrage at the continuation of Netanyahu’s trial even after what he described as “one of Israel’s greatest moments in history.”
Trump was referring to Israel’s recent coordinated military strikes on Iranian nuclear and military installations, conducted with US support. Hailing Netanyahu as a “warrior,” Trump said the Israeli leader played a pivotal role in the destruction of Iran’s near-term nuclear weapons capabilities.
“BREAKING NEWS… I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel… is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their Great wartime Prime Minister!” Trump wrote. “Bibi and I just went through HELL together, fighting a very tough and brilliant longtime enemy of Israel, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his LOVE for the incredible Holy Land.”
The former US president went on to demand that Netanyahu’s corruption trial—ongoing since May 2020—be scrapped or pardoned altogether. “Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State,” he declared.
Netanyahu is currently facing three separate criminal cases—Case 1000, 2000, and 4000—alleging bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Trump dismissed the charges as absurd, sarcastically citing items such as “cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges” as the basis for what he described as a judicial “horror show.”
“This is the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has ever been on trial… Such a WITCH HUNT, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel,” Trump added.
He concluded with a bold statement: “It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF ‘JUSTICE’ CANNOT BE ALLOWED!”
Under Israeli law, Netanyahu is not required to resign unless convicted and the conviction is upheld by the Supreme Court. He has consistently denied all charges, dismissing them as baseless and politically driven.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu also faces international legal pressure. The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant against him on allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including charges related to targeting civilians and implementing starvation policies during the Gaza conflict.
