Washington DC [US], July 17 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday lashed out at some of his own supporters, calling them “weaklings” for demanding more transparency on the Jeffrey Epstein case, and declaring he no longer wants their backing, CNN reported.
In a sharply worded post on Truth Social, Trump accused his critics — including members of his political base — of falling for Democratic “bullshit” about Epstein, the disgraced financier who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote. “They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
He further claimed that the controversy was distracting from his administration’s successes and serving as a tool for his political opponents. “Democrats have struck pay dirt,” he said, accusing them of using the Epstein issue to undermine him.
The president’s comments come as Republicans in Congress continue to push for the Justice Department to release more information about Epstein’s alleged network and activities. Last week, the DOJ released a memo confirming that there is no “client list” and reiterating the conclusion of suicide, which many of Trump’s allies and base supporters have publicly disputed.
Meanwhile, in a related development, federal prosecutor Maurene Comey — the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey — was dismissed from her position in the Southern District of New York, CNN reported. Comey had worked on the Epstein case and more recently on the investigation into Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The reasons for her dismissal were not immediately clear, but a source familiar with the matter told CNN that her family name made her position “untenable” in the Trump administration, citing ongoing friction with her father, who has been a vocal critic of Trump since being dismissed as FBI director in 2017.
The president’s sharp rebuke of his own supporters underscores growing cracks within his coalition over the handling of the Epstein controversy and the administration’s refusal to release further details of the investigation. (ANI)
