Washington DC [US], October 24 (ANI): US President Donald Trump is set to begin a major Asia tour, aiming to mend trade disputes, reinforce alliances, and participate in key regional summits, including the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia and the APEC forum in South Korea.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt outlined the itinerary, stating, “President Trump’s upcoming trip to Asia: Tomorrow at 11 pm, the president will depart the White House to fly to Malaysia, where he will arrive on Sunday morning local time. President Trump will participate in a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Malaysia in the afternoon, then attend the ASEAN leaders’ working dinner that evening. On Monday morning, he will fly to Tokyo. Tuesday morning, President Trump will meet bilaterally with Japan’s new prime minister. On Wednesday morning, he will fly to Busan, South Korea, participate in a bilateral meeting with the president of the Republic of Korea, deliver keynote remarks at the APEC CEO luncheon, and attend the US-APEC leaders working dinner. On Thursday morning, President Trump will meet bilaterally with President Xi of China before returning to Washington, DC.”
The ASEAN Summit in Malaysia is scheduled for October 26–27, while the APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, will take place from October 30 to November 1.
During his visit to Malaysia, Trump will hold discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and regional leaders at a working dinner. In Japan, he will meet Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to discuss trade agreements and security cooperation. In South Korea, Trump will participate in the APEC CEO Summit, meet President Lee Jae Myung, and address business leaders.
A key highlight of the trip is a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, focusing on trade tensions, rare earth exports, and cooperation on fentanyl control. The administration aims to negotiate favorable trade agreements, reduce tariffs, and boost US exports.
The tour is seen as a strategic effort to redefine regional trade, deepen diplomatic ties, and reinforce US engagement in Asia amid rising economic and security challenges. (ANI)
