Washington DC [US], December 29 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Monday held a positive call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed. No further details were disclosed in her post on X.
Zelenskyy said the two leaders discussed a “sequencing plan” in coordination with the US, outlining step-by-step actions for security and reconstruction. He indicated that a meeting of national security advisors from the US, Ukraine, and Europe is expected soon, to be held in Ukraine, as part of preparations for broader multilateral discussions involving European leaders.
Security guarantees were a key topic. Zelenskyy said the US confirmed strong security assurances for Ukraine, currently set for 15 years with potential extensions. He urged consideration for longer-term guarantees of 30, 40, or 50 years, highlighting the protracted nature of the conflict. Zelenskyy described the guarantees as “historic” and noted that details would be put to a vote in the US Congress.
Economic support for Ukraine’s post-war recovery was also discussed. Zelenskyy said the package includes opportunities for American businesses, special development conditions, and progress toward a US-Ukraine free trade agreement. He described the discussions as moving Ukraine closer to achieving milestones in the 20-point peace and recovery plan.
Zelenskyy emphasized that these measures are being developed in close coordination with European partners, aiming for a series of staged meetings to solidify agreements before engaging Russia in subsequent negotiations.
