Washington, DC [US], June 28 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Friday renewed his call for Congress to pass the “one big, beautiful bill”—a sweeping legislative package aimed at modernising the nation’s air traffic control system and delivering major tax cuts—before July 4. The proposed legislation, backed by Republican senators, is designed to upgrade critical infrastructure and deliver broad economic reforms.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump lauded Republican senators for working over the weekend to complete the bill, calling it a transformative package. “The Great Republicans in the U.S. Senate are working all weekend to finish our ‘ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL.’ We are on the precipice of delivering massive general tax cuts—NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY FOR OUR SENIORS,” he wrote.
He further outlined the bill’s scope, stating it would permanently secure US borders, strengthen the military, dominate the global energy market, and redirect financial gains back to American families. “It will be a wonderful Celebration for our Country… And to think, just last year, we were a laughingstock,” Trump added.
A central component of the bill is the overhaul of the air traffic control system, which Trump addressed in a video from the White House. “After many years of decline in our air traffic control system, the one big beautiful bill will modernise this decrepit relic and give America the best, most advanced air traffic control system on Earth,” he said.
Trump described current systems as “ancient,” with outdated radar and software. The new legislation, he said, would replace these with state-of-the-art communications, radar technology, and modern infrastructure. “It will improve runway safety and build new air traffic control centres for the first time in more than 50 years… It’s the best in the world,” he asserted.
Despite Trump’s optimism, the bill hit a procedural roadblock on Thursday. The Senate’s parliamentarian, Elizabeth MacDonough, ruled that a key provision—capping health care provider taxes to reduce federal Medicaid spending—violated the Byrd Rule, which governs what can be passed through the budget reconciliation process with a simple majority.
The ruling forced Senate Republicans to search for alternative strategies. Senate Majority Whip John Thune said his team is working on “contingency plans” to salvage the legislation. “Plan B, plan C,” he told reporters. Lawmakers are still aiming to meet Trump’s July 4 deadline.
The proposed cap on health provider taxes sparked concern from both moderate and conservative lawmakers, who warned it could cripple rural hospitals. Senator Josh Hawley expressed uncertainty about how the bill would proceed but emphasized the need to protect small healthcare providers. “We have no idea what’s going to happen here… Hopefully their fix will involve protecting rural hospitals,” he said.
Other senators—including Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Jerry Moran, and Thom Tillis—echoed Hawley’s concerns, warning that the financial blow to rural hospitals could trigger bankruptcies nationwide.
As the deadline approaches, Senate Republicans are racing to amend the legislation and maintain momentum. The bill represents a key component of Trump’s legislative agenda ahead of the November election and is intended to showcase the Republican Party’s commitment to infrastructure and economic revival.
Whether the “one big, beautiful bill” becomes law before Independence Day will hinge on lawmakers’ ability to resolve internal disputes and align the package with budget rules. (ANI)
