Washington D.C. [US], November 25 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will travel to China in April 2026 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump said the two leaders had a very productive phone conversation covering topics including Ukraine, Russia, fentanyl, soybeans, and other agricultural products. He noted that the discussions followed their “highly successful” meeting in South Korea on October 30, during which both sides made significant progress in keeping existing agreements current and accurate. “Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate. Now we can set our sights on the big picture,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. President also announced that he will host Xi Jinping for a state visit in the United States later in 2026. He described the U.S.-China relationship as “extremely strong” and confirmed that he had accepted Xi’s invitation to visit Beijing in April.
According to a statement, the leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine. Xi reiterated China’s support for efforts conducive to peace and expressed hope that the parties involved would narrow differences and work toward a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement.
Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reaffirmed close cooperation with the United States during a call with President Trump, hours after his conversation with Xi. Japanese state media reported that the call took place at Trump’s request, during which he briefed Takaichi on his discussion with the Chinese leader. She refrained from elaborating further, including on any discussion regarding her comments on a Taiwan contingency, Kyodo reported.
Tensions between Beijing and Tokyo arose after Takaichi’s remarks suggesting Japan could deploy military forces in the event of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait. In a November 7 parliamentary session, she said a military attack on Taiwan could present a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan. Following this, China suspended the resumption of Japanese seafood imports and advised its citizens against traveling or studying in Japan.
China’s Foreign Ministry stated that Trump told Xi he understood the importance of the Taiwan issue during their talks. After the call, Xi said that China and the United States should maintain momentum in their relations and continue moving forward based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit, Xinhua reported.
