Washington DC [US], September 8 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) called on foreign companies to ensure compliance with US immigration laws after a large-scale Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid at Hyundai’s electric vehicle battery plant in Georgia led to the detention of more than 400 workers.
In a Truth Social post, Trump emphasized that while investments are welcome, companies must hire responsibly and bring in foreign talent only through legal means.
“Following the Immigration Enforcement Operation on the Hyundai Battery Plant in Georgia, I am hereby calling on all Foreign Companies investing in the United States to please respect our Nation’s Immigration Laws. Your investments are welcome, and we encourage you to LEGALLY bring your very smart people, with great technical talent, to build World Class products, and we will make it quickly and legally possible for you to do so. What we ask in return is that you hire and train American Workers. Together, we will all work hard to make our Nation not only productive, but closer in unity than ever before,” Trump stated.
The raid targeted the Hyundai Metaplant in Ellabell, Georgia, a facility jointly operated by South Korea’s Hyundai and LG Energy Solution. According to CNN, ICE detained 475 people on Thursday, around 300 of whom were South Korean nationals. The operation is being described as one of the largest immigration raids in recent US history.
South Korea’s government has been actively coordinating with its embassy in Washington DC and the Consulate General in Atlanta to secure the release of the detained workers. Officials confirmed that the South Korean nationals will be returned home on a chartered flight following negotiations. (ANI)
