Palm Beach [US], January 3 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Saturday described the strikes in Venezuela, which led to the capture of incumbent President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, as “one of the most stunning, effective, and powerful displays of American military might and competence in American history.” Speaking at a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said no nation in the world could have achieved what the United States accomplished.
Trump confirmed that Maduro and Flores were flown out of Venezuela and will face justice in the United States. “Maduro and Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York for their campaign of deadly narco-terrorism against the United States and its citizens,” he said. The US military operation, he added, targeted a heavily fortified military fortress in Caracas using air, land, and sea power, describing it as a “spectacular assault” unlike anything seen since World War II.
The President stated that the US would manage Venezuela “until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition.” He emphasized that the goal is peace, justice, and liberty for the Venezuelan people and insisted that the US would prevent any leadership from taking over the country without the welfare of its citizens in mind.
Trump also announced plans for US companies to restore Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, calling it “badly broken” and underutilized. “We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, and start making money for the country,” he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Trump shared the first image of Maduro aboard the US warship USS Iwo Jima on Truth Social, confirming the operation’s success.
The capture of Maduro comes amid sharply heightened tensions between the United States and Venezuela, following repeated accusations by Trump that Maduro presided over a “narco-terrorist” government. (ANI)
