
Washington DC [US], July 30 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday acknowledged the tsunami warning issued in the aftermath of an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in the Pacific Ocean and urged the public to stay informed and follow official guidance.
In a post on X, Trump stated, “Due to a massive earthquake that occurred in the Pacific Ocean, a Tsunami Warning is in effect for those living in Hawaii. A Tsunami Watch is in effect for Alaska and the Pacific Coast of the United States. Japan is also in the way. Please visit https://tsunami.gov for the latest information. STAY STRONG AND STAY SAFE!”

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Los Angeles issued a tsunami advisory for coastal areas, stating that the tsunami is expected to arrive around 1:00 a.m. local time. In a social media post, NWS Los Angeles said, “A Tsunami Advisory has been issued, replacing the Tsunami Watch. The tsunami should arrive near 1AM tonight. If you are located in the coastal area, move off the beach & out of harbors & marinas. Do not go to the coast to watch. Be alert to instructions from local EM officials.”

The NWS office in Eureka, California, confirmed that a tsunami advisory is in effect for the state’s coastal areas, with the first wave expected to arrive around 11:50 p.m. local time. “Multiple waves are expected, lasting for 10–36 hours. Move off the beach and out of harbors/marinas. Mariners are advised to get to depth of 30 fathoms,” the service noted.

The San Francisco Bay Area office of the NWS warned residents against traveling to the coast to take photographs, emphasizing the danger such actions pose not only to themselves but also to emergency responders. “This will NOT be a single wave. Do NOT try to go to the coast to take photos,” the advisory stated. The Bay Area remains under a tsunami advisory.
In Hawaii, the US Coast Guard’s Captain of the Port in Honolulu ordered the evacuation of all commercial vessels from commercial ports.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) updated the earthquake’s magnitude to 8.8. The quake, which struck off the far eastern coast of Russia at 8:25 a.m. local time on Wednesday, was initially reported at 8.0, then revised to 8.7 before the final upgrade.
