Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 12 (ANI): Television actress Manjula, popularly known as Shruti, was brutally stabbed multiple times by her husband Amaresh earlier this month and is recovering after treatment at Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru. Police confirmed on Friday that Amaresh has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
The shocking attack occurred on July 4. According to police, Shruti has since been discharged from the hospital, and the Hanumanthanagar Police have registered a case against Amaresh.
West Division DCP S. Girish said the couple had been married for 20 years and have two children. Amaresh, a 49-year-old auto driver, and Shruti reportedly had frequent disputes over domestic issues.
“Manjula alias Shruti, who had acted in television serials, married Amaresh after falling in love with him. Investigation revealed they fought often. Three months ago, Manjula had even filed a complaint of dowry harassment against Amaresh. After police mediation, the couple reconciled and reunited only last Thursday,” DCP Girish said.
However, tensions between the couple flared again soon after. On July 4, during a heated argument, Amaresh allegedly sprayed pepper spray into Shruti’s eyes and stabbed her multiple times — in the stomach, ribs, thigh, and neck — with a knife.
Neighbours, alerted by her screams, intervened, stopped the assault, and rushed her to Victoria Hospital for emergency care.
Police registered a case at Hanumanthanagar Police Station. Amaresh was subsequently arrested and sent to judicial custody.
