Sharjah [UAE], April 7 (ANI): Two people were injured Tuesday after a ballistic missile strike targeted a telecommunications facility in Sharjah’s central region, according to Al Jazeera.
Citing the UAE’s official Emirates News Agency (WAM), the report said two Pakistani nationals were wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Earlier, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense said its air defense systems had successfully intercepted multiple aerial threats launched from Iran as regional tensions continue to escalate.
In a post on X, the ministry said, “UAE air defenses engaged 12 ballistic missiles, 2 cruise missiles, and 19 UAVs,” adding that the interceptions took place on April 6 and targeted incoming projectiles launched from Iran.
Providing a broader operational update, the ministry said, “Since the onset of the blatant Iranian attacks, UAE air defenses have engaged a total of 519 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,210 UAVs.”
Despite the scale of the attacks, authorities reported limited casualties in the latest wave.
“These attacks resulted in injuries to four individuals, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate and severe,” the statement said.
The cumulative number of injured has now reached 221 people, including nationals from several countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Egypt, among others.
“The total number of injuries has reached 221, involving individuals of various nationalities, including Emirati, Egyptian, Sudanese, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Azerbaijani, Yemeni, Ugandan, Eritrean, Lebanese, Afghan, Bahraini, Comorian, Turkish, Iraqi, Nepalese, Nigerian, Omani, Jordanian, Palestinian, Ghanaian, Indonesian, Swedish, Tunisian, Moroccan, and Russian,” the ministry said.
The ministry confirmed that no fatalities were reported in the latest incidents.
“No martyrs or fatalities have been reported in the past hours,” it said.
However, since the beginning of the attacks, the toll includes two Emirati personnel and a Moroccan civilian contracted with the armed forces.
“The total number of civilian fatalities stands at 10 from Pakistani, Nepalese, Bangladeshi, Palestinian, Indian, and Egyptian nationalities,” the ministry said.
Reaffirming its preparedness, the ministry said it remains ready to respond to any threats and will act to safeguard the country’s security, sovereignty, and stability. (ANI)
