This development follows closely on the heels of a gruesome terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam earlier on Wednesday. In response, security forces have launched multiple search operations to locate those responsible, and heightened security has been observed in the region. Visuals from Pahalgam show deserted streets in what is usually a bustling tourist destination.
In light of the heightened tensions, some tourists have chosen to cut their trips short. Sameer Bhardwaj, a tourist from Delhi who had plans to explore Pahalgam, said he would now be returning to the National Capital.
Meanwhile, several political parties, the traders’ union, and social organizations have called for a complete shutdown across the Kashmir Valley today. The move is intended to show solidarity with the victims’ families and to strongly condemn the attack.
The Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists in the Anantnag district, has sparked widespread outrage across the country. Multiple political leaders have expressed their condemnation.
Residents across Jammu and Kashmir held candlelight marches in protest. Local gatherings took place in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, and Kupwara, while Bajrang Dal workers staged a protest in Jammu.
In Khod village, located in the Akhoor area, locals also participated in a candlelight protest march condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. (ANI)
