Dubai [UAE], July 15 (ANI): On the third day of his Dubai visit, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav held a high-level meeting with senior officials of DP World and Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) to discuss the upcoming Bharat Mart project and its logistics potential. The meeting is being hailed as a landmark initiative to connect India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with global markets, an official statement said.
Describing Bharat Mart as a “gateway to global trade,” Yadav emphasized that the modern international trade hub will offer Indian products — particularly from the food processing, agriculture, and handicrafts sectors — direct access to key markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
Slated to become operational in 2026, Bharat Mart is envisioned as a cornerstone of the government’s ‘Local to Global’ policy, the statement noted.
Located in Jebel Ali Free Zone, the multi-dimensional trade centre will span approximately 2.7 million square feet and feature more than 1,500 showrooms, state-of-the-art warehouses, and office facilities. The foundation stone of the project was jointly laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in February 2024. Developed by DP World, the facility aims to provide a world-class platform for Indian MSMEs to export their high-quality products with ease, bolstering India’s share in global trade.
The meeting also covered plans for a proposed DP World rail terminal in Madhya Pradesh along the Ujjain-Nagda route, which is expected to streamline logistics between India and Dubai. This enhanced connectivity is designed to ensure faster, more cost-effective, and efficient transport of goods — directly benefiting exporters from the state.
Speaking at the meeting, Yadav stated, “Our government sees this not just as a trade venture, but as laying the foundation for the economic future of Madhya Pradesh. Through Bharat Mart, our state will emerge as a vital link in the global supply chain.”
DP World, headquartered in Dubai, is a global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, operating more than 100 terminals and ports in over 78 countries, with an annual handling capacity of 70 million TEUs. In India, it operates six terminals across Mumbai, Mundra, Cochin, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam, and manages cold chains, container freight stations, and export-import services.
According to the statement, DP World has also expressed keen interest in developing Inland Container Depots (ICDs), Multimodal Logistics Parks (MMLPs), agri-logistics hubs, and dry ports in Madhya Pradesh, in line with the state’s logistics and export policy. These initiatives represent a significant stride towards long-term infrastructure development through public-private partnerships (PPPs).
