London [UK], April 25 (ANI): UK Members of Parliament (MPs) have strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals and left several others injured. The MPs expressed their solidarity with the victims and called for the swift apprehension of those responsible for the attack.
Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, MP for Slough, addressed Parliament expressing his sorrow over the tragedy, offering prayers for the families of the victims. He also stressed his hope that the perpetrators would face justice. “We’ve been dealing this week with the sad passing of Pope Francis, but I was deeply saddened this week by the cowardly, deadly, shocking terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. The families of the victims are very much in my prayers, and I sincerely hope that the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice,” Dhesi said.
Lucy Powell, Leader of the UK House of Commons, also condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act” and extending her thoughts to those affected, particularly the families of those who lost their lives. “The horror of this horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir was utterly devastating and it was, as he says, a cowardly act. My thoughts, and the thoughts of the whole government, are with those affected, especially those who’ve lost loved ones,” Powell remarked.
On April 23, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also expressed his deep sadness, calling the terrorist attack “utterly devastating.” Starmer posted on X, “The horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir today is utterly devastating. My thoughts are with those affected, their loved ones, and the people of India.”
The terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, targeted tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack. As many as 26 people were killed, and several others injured in the assault.
In response to the attack, India has taken strong countermeasures against Pakistan, which is suspected of supporting cross-border terrorism. The Indian Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 and taken steps to sever diplomatic ties, including declaring Pakistani diplomats persona non grata and suspending visa services for Pakistani nationals.
India has also cancelled existing visas under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme and ordered the closure of the integrated Attari Check Post, marking a significant escalation in the response to cross-border terrorism. (ANI)
