Heathrow [UK], December 7 (ANI): Police are investigating an incident in which “a number of people” were attacked with what is believed to be pepper spray by a group of men who later fled the scene, Sky News reported on Sunday.
Officers were called at 8:11 am to a multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 following reports of multiple assaults, according to the Metropolitan Police.
In a statement posted on X, Heathrow Airport said: “Our teams are currently responding to an incident involving the emergency services in the Terminal 3 multi-storey car park. Passengers are advised to allow extra time when travelling to the airport and to check with their airline for any queries.”
The Metropolitan Police said the victims were sprayed with a substance believed to be pepper spray by a group of men who then left the area. Armed officers responded, and one man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody as enquiries continue to locate additional suspects, Sky News reported.
Police confirmed they are not treating the incident as terrorism.
London Ambulance Service attended the scene, and the injured individuals were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-changing.
Traffic disruptions have been reported in the surrounding area, though Terminal 3 remains open, according to Sky News.
Commander Peter Stevens told Sky News that the incident appeared to involve individuals who knew one another, with an argument escalating into violence. He added that there will be an increased police presence at Heathrow throughout the morning to support ongoing investigations and ensure public safety.
“I understand the public’s concerns and would like to thank those in the area for their cooperation this morning,” he said. (ANI)
