
Moscow [Russia], July 24 (ANI/MIC Izvestia): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has extended his condolences following the crash of an AN-24 passenger aircraft in Russia’s Amur region. The message was conveyed during a briefing on July 24 by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
“We express our condolences to the families of the victims of the plane crash,” said Haq, during a statement broadcast on the UN’s official YouTube channel. He added that Secretary-General Guterres offered his sympathies to the people and government of Russia.
The AN-24 aircraft, which was operating the route from Khabarovsk to Blagoveshchensk to Tynda, crashed approximately 15 kilometers from Tynda on July 24. The plane had lost communication before its burning fuselage was later found on the ground. All passengers and crew members onboard were killed.
Russian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the crash. Preliminary causes being examined include a possible technical malfunction and human error.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished. At the start of a meeting on the development of the Navy’s submarine forces, President Putin observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims. (ANI/MIC Izvestia)
