
Uncontrolled Sale of Agricultural Land in Uttarakhand Completely Banned

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 8 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the enforcement of a new land law aimed at improving land management and reform across the state. In line with public sentiment, the uncontrolled sale of agricultural and horticultural land in Uttarakhand has been completely banned, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Strict action is being taken against individuals violating the provisions of the Land Act, and a comprehensive campaign is currently underway. Lands found to be in violation are being vested in the state government.
On the Chief Minister’s directives, swift action is being taken in cases of land use violations, particularly where land was purchased under various provisions of the Uttarakhand Land Act.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office:
- Under Section 154(4)(3)(A):
Permission to purchase land was granted in 532 cases, of which 88 cases were found to be in violation of land use norms. Legal suits have been filed under Sections 166–167 in 42 of these cases. - Under Section 154(4)(3)(B):
Of the 963 land purchase permissions, 172 violations were discovered. Suits have been filed in 112 cases. - Under Section 154(4)(1)(A):
There are 147 ongoing cases related to land use violations, including:- 50 out of 77 cases in Dehradun
- 20 in Haridwar
- 17 in Pauri
- 29 in Tehri
- 1 in Uttarkashi
- In Almora, of three violation cases, land from one case has already been vested in the state.
In total, 3.006 hectares of land found in violation of purchase permissions have been vested in the state government. Notable examples include:
- 0.040 hectares purchased by M/s Trilok Gramodyog Seva Samiti for beekeeping in Kapkot, Bageshwar
- 1.653 hectares purchased by MS Standard Splints Ltd. on behalf of D. Sevattha Pandey in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar
- 0.555 hectares purchased by Bhavni Singh, wife of Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh of Lucknow, for agriculture in Siltona Shri Kainchi Dham, Nainital
- 0.020 hectares in Digoti Dwarahat, Almora
- 0.713 hectares purchased by Rainabari Health Resort for resort development in Katarmal Chaukhutia, Almora
- 0.025 hectares purchased by Pranav Singh from West Bengal for residential purposes in Kotuda, Almora
The government emphasized its commitment to upholding land use laws and ensuring that agricultural and horticultural lands are protected from unauthorized sale and misuse.
