[US], June 2 (ANI): Six people were injured in Boulder, Colorado, after a man attacked participants at a rally supporting Israeli hostages by setting them on fire, according to local media reports. The suspect, identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national whose U.S. visa expired in 2023, has been taken into custody by the FBI, which has labeled the incident a “targeted terror attack.”
The attack occurred on Sunday at the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. According to an FBI official cited by CBS News, witnesses reported that the assailant used a “makeshift flamethrower” and threw Molotov cocktails into the crowd, burning multiple individuals who were peacefully demonstrating on behalf of Israeli hostages still held in Gaza by Hamas.
FBI chief Kash Patel posted on X, stating, “We are aware of and fully investigating a targeted terror attack in Boulder, Colorado.”
According to Fox News, Soliman shouted “Free Palestine” and other anti-Israel slogans while launching the attack. The victims, aged between 67 and 88, sustained various injuries, and Soliman was arrested at the scene. Online jail records confirm that he has been booked into the Boulder County Jail.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard confirmed that the National Counterterrorism Center is collaborating with the FBI and local law enforcement in the investigation. She posted on X: “The @ODNIgov’s National Counterterrorism Center is working with the FBI and local law enforcement on the ground investigating the targeted terror attack against a weekly meeting of Jewish community members who had just gathered in Boulder, CO to raise awareness of the hostages kidnapped during Hamas’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7. Thank you to first responders and local authorities for your quick response and action.”
