Lahore [Pakistan], May 8 (ANI): In response to reports of “drone explosions, downed drones, and possible airspace incursions,” the US has urged its citizens to leave Lahore or seek shelter-in-place. The US Consulate in Lahore issued a statement advising American citizens to have evacuation plans independent of US government assistance, carry up-to-date travel documents, and monitor local media for updates.
The statement further directed all consulate personnel to shelter-in-place, adding that authorities may be evacuating areas near Lahore’s main airport. US citizens in the area are urged to leave if safe to do so, or shelter-in-place if necessary.
The Consulate also reminded citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updates.
This advisory comes after Indian military drone action neutralized the Air Defence system at Lahore. Harpy drones, designed to target radar systems, were used by the Indian armed forces to engage Pakistani military targets following the May 7 terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 casualties.
In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor, destroying nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan. These operations were carried out in various regions across Northern and Western India using drones and missiles. India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems neutralized incoming Pakistani targets, and reports indicate that Indian Air Force S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence missile systems successfully neutralized threats during the operation.
The operation remains ongoing, and Indian sources report the elimination of over 100 terrorists through precision strikes, though casualty numbers are still being verified. Targets included camps associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen in both Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Meanwhile, Pakistan has increased its unprovoked mortar and artillery fire across the Line of Control, resulting in 16 innocent fatalities, including three women and five children.
