New Delhi [India], September 18 (ANI): The US Embassy in New Delhi has revoked and denied visas for Indian business executives and their family members involved in trafficking fentanyl precursors. The action, based on sections 221(i), 212(a)(2)(C), and 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, renders the individuals and their families potentially ineligible for travel to the United States, the Embassy stated on Thursday.
The move underscores the US’s commitment to combating the illicit drug trade, particularly the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. Executives associated with companies known to have trafficked fentanyl precursors will face heightened scrutiny in future visa applications.
“The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi remains steadfast in its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking. Individuals and organisations involved in the illegal production and trafficking of drugs to the United States, along with their families, will face consequences that may include being denied access to the United States,” affirmed Charge d’Affaires Jorgan Andrews.
The Embassy also acknowledged India’s cooperation in addressing this transnational threat. “We are grateful to our counterparts in the Government of India for their close cooperation to combat this shared challenge. Only by working together will our two governments address this transnational threat and keep both our people safe from illicit drugs,” the statement added.
This action aligns with the Trump Administration’s focus on curbing fentanyl flow into the US through executive measures and border security initiatives. While the Embassy did not disclose the names of the companies or individuals involved, it reaffirmed that US-India collaboration will continue to ensure a safer and healthier future for both nations.
