New Delhi [India], December 8 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday welcomed the release of the US National Security Strategy 2025 report, highlighting India’s strategic importance to Washington and naming it a key partner in global security and strategic initiatives.
During a weekly briefing, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the report underscores the value the United States places on India as a partner, reflecting the multifaceted bilateral relationship and the comprehensive global strategic partnership both countries share. The report emphasizes deepening cooperation across economic, technological, and defense sectors.
The strategy specifically calls for enhanced commercial relations with India and encourages New Delhi to contribute to Indo-Pacific security through the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) alongside Australia, Japan, and the United States. It also identifies the Indo-Pacific as a region critical to the world’s economy and geopolitical balance, noting the combined GDP of treaty allies and partners totals USD 65 trillion. Technology cooperation, particularly in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and defense technologies, is highlighted as a priority area for partnership.
Jaiswal also highlighted the 21st meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism (CT) held on December 3, which he described as a critical component of the comprehensive strategic partnership. During the meeting, both sides strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks, including the April 22 incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the November 10 attack near Delhi’s Red Fort.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation through the UN, the QUAD framework, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and other forums. They also called for additional designations under the UN 1267 sanctions regime targeting ISIS, al-Qa’ida affiliates, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and associated proxy groups, ensuring global asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes.
The Indian side further thanked the US Department of State for designating The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of LeT, as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), reinforcing the growing convergence between India and the United States on counterterrorism efforts.
