Washington [US], August 12 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order extending the suspension of certain tariffs on imports from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) until November 10, 2025.
Citing constitutional authority and laws such as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the National Emergencies Act, Trump said the extension reflects ongoing trade discussions aimed at addressing “lack of trade reciprocity” and related national and economic security concerns.
This order builds on previous executive orders starting in April 2025, which imposed and later modified tariffs following escalating trade tensions between the US and China. In May 2025, Trump had suspended additional duties for 90 days, with the suspension set to expire on August 12.
The new order notes that China continues to take significant steps to remedy non-reciprocal trade practices and address US concerns. Based on senior officials’ recommendations, Trump determined it necessary to continue the tariff suspension until 12:01 a.m. EST on November 10, 2025.
Key provisions of the tariff suspension under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule will remain in effect through that date. The Secretaries of Commerce, Homeland Security, and the US Trade Representative, in consultation with other senior officials, have been tasked with implementing the order.
The executive order clarifies that it will be implemented consistent with applicable law, subject to available funding, and does not create enforceable rights or benefits against the US government.
