Washington, D.C. [US], April 11 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States is “starting the process” of clearing the Strait of Hormuz, a move aimed at securing one of the world’s most vital maritime oil corridors amid escalating regional tensions.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump described the initiative as a global effort to ensure the safe transit of energy supplies.
“We’re now starting the process of clearing out the Strait of Hormuz as a favor to countries all over the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and many others,” he said.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, facilitates the passage of a significant share of the world’s crude oil exports. Historically, instability in the region has led to fluctuations in global oil prices and increased maritime insurance costs.
Trump also criticized other nations for what he described as a lack of initiative in securing the route. “Incredibly, they don’t have the courage or will to do this work themselves,” he said.
While the President did not outline specific operational plans, his remarks suggest a strategic shift toward addressing threats to merchant shipping, particularly risks posed by naval mines. Any direct intervention in the region is expected to carry significant geopolitical and economic implications due to the involvement of multiple global powers.
In the same post, Trump criticized media coverage, accusing outlets of bias and rejecting claims that Iran is gaining the upper hand. He characterized such reports as inaccurate and asserted that Iran is “losing big.”
He further claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, including its naval and aerial forces, air defense systems, radar networks, and missile and drone manufacturing infrastructure. These claims were not accompanied by specific evidence.
The President also suggested that the primary remaining threat to maritime traffic is the presence of sea mines, stating that assets used to deploy such mines have largely been neutralized.
Additionally, Trump noted that tankers from various countries are heading to the United States to procure crude oil, framing this as a shift in global energy dynamics and a sign of confidence in American resources despite ongoing volatility in traditional transit routes. (ANI)
