New Delhi [India], December 8 (ANI): United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker arrived in India on Monday, with her visit aimed at advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities for a stronger strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington, the US Embassy said.
In a post on X, the Embassy stated, “The U.S. Mission is pleased to welcome @UnderSecStateP Allison Hooker to India! As we continue to press forward in the U.S.-India relationship on a number of issues critical to our economic and national security, the Under Secretary’s visit will help advance @POTUS priorities for a strong U.S.-India partnership and a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Under Secretary Hooker’s engagements will focus on strengthening the US-India strategic partnership, expanding economic and commercial cooperation — including boosting American exports — and deepening collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, critical technologies, and space exploration.
During her stay in New Delhi, Hooker will hold meetings with senior Indian officials to discuss regional security dynamics, economic cooperation, and shared objectives in the Indo-Pacific. Her visit includes the Foreign Office Consultations with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
She will also travel to Bengaluru, where she is scheduled to visit the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and engage with leaders from India’s space, energy, and technology sectors. The visit aims to promote innovation and expand joint research partnerships between the two countries, as highlighted in an earlier Embassy statement.
Hooker’s arrival follows a new round of counterterrorism cooperation between India and the United States. On December 6, both nations reaffirmed their unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all forms, including cross-border terrorism, and committed to bolstering multilateral efforts to combat it through the UN, Quad, and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The two sides recently convened the 21st India-USA Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and the 7th Designations Dialogue on December 3. They called for additional UN 1267 sanctions designations targeting affiliates of ISIS, al-Qa’ida, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and their proxy networks, ensuring global asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes against members.
India and the US strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the November 10 attack near the Red Fort in New Delhi, stressing the need to hold perpetrators accountable.
These meetings reinforced the expanding cooperation under the India-USA Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
