Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 5 (ANI): The Uttarakhand Government has suspended three Public Works Department (PWD) engineers following damage to an under-construction bridge at Tharali in Chamoli district. The suspension orders were issued by PWD Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey under the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, according to an official statement.
The state government emphasized its commitment to transparent and accountable governance, with Chief Minister Dhami instructing strict measures to ensure corruption-free administration and enforce accountability.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Dhami honoured ‘eco-warriors’ for their contributions to environmental conservation at Mukhya Sevak Sadan, his official residence. Students welcomed him with floral tributes. The CM urged everyone to pledge efforts toward environmental protection, stressing the interconnected impact of natural calamities across the state and country.
The Municipal Corporation Rudrapur received the Sunder Lal Bahuguna Nature and Environment Conservation Award-2025 (Government Category), accepted by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Shipra Joshi. Vijay Jaddhari and Pratap Singh Pokhriyal were honoured with the same award in the Non-Government Category.
Additionally, the Chief Minister launched an awareness poster by the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board and inaugurated a portal developed by the Eco-Tourism Corporation. He took a plastic-free pledge and distributed cloth bags to schoolchildren.
Dhami directed the Forest Department to plant at least 1,000 fruit trees in every forest division this year to provide food for wildlife. He appealed to residents and visitors not to feed animals harmful substances.
Highlighting Uttarakhand’s rich natural beauty and biodiversity—including dense forests, holy rivers, and Himalayan glaciers—the Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives advancing India’s leadership in renewable energy. He cited programs such as the Solar Mission, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Namami Gange Abhiyan, and the Plastic-Free India Campaign as key contributors to environmental conservation.
