Washington, DC [US], July 12 (ANI): Former President Donald Trump has responded graciously to an apology from Elon Musk, calling it “very nice” after the billionaire entrepreneur publicly admitted he went “too far” in a string of personal attacks amid their escalating fallout last week.
Speaking on the debut episode of the New York Post’s podcast “Pod Force One” with host Miranda Devine, Trump said he harbored “no hard feelings” over the feud and indicated the door was open for reconciliation.
“Look, I have no hard feelings,” Trump said. “I guess I could [patch things up], but we have to straighten out the country. And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it’s ever been. And I think we can do that.”
The remarks come after Musk, 53, posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday:
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
According to a CNN report, the apology followed a private phone call between Trump and Musk on Monday night, which came after Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reportedly spoke with Musk last Friday in an attempt to de-escalate tensions.
The feud began when Musk, who had previously served in Trump’s administration as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), publicly criticized the president’s newly introduced domestic policy package—referred to by Trump as the “big beautiful bill.” Musk described the legislation as a “disgusting abomination.”
Musk also made incendiary claims on social media, asserting that Trump would not have won the 2024 presidential election without his influence, and suggested the former president played a role in suppressing the release of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, due to Trump’s prior association with the late financier.
Trump’s response was swift and sharp, telling NBC News that Musk had “lost his mind” and warning that he might revoke Musk’s government contracts, reportedly worth USD 38 billion.
“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president,” Trump said.
In the aftermath, Republican lawmakers and top Trump allies have been working behind the scenes to mend the rift, urging Musk to reconcile with the president and endorse the administration’s policy bill.
Whether the high-profile dispute will be fully resolved remains to be seen, but both parties now appear to be walking back from the brink, amid growing political and economic stakes for their respective empires. (ANI)
