New Delhi [India], April 7 (ANI): The Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh (VVSS) has sent a letter to India’s top political leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, demanding that the graves of executed terrorists Maqbool Bhatt and Afzal Guru be relocated from India to a remote location such as the Atlantic Ocean or the Amazon rainforest.
In the letter dated April 7, VVSS President Jitendra Singh Vishen claimed the presence of the graves within Tihar Jail premises is “completely unconstitutional” and poses a threat to national unity.
“It is well known that terrorists Maqbool Bhatt and Afzal Guru, who held a jihadi mindset, were hanged for spreading terror on Indian soil. Their graves were made within the Central Jail Tihar premises, which is unconstitutional,” the letter stated.
The organization alleged that people with radical ideologies now idolize these individuals and even commit crimes to be jailed, so they can prostrate at the graves.
“People of jihadi mindset commit crimes deliberately to reach Tihar Jail and pay respects at these graves, thereby mocking the nation’s legal system and glorifying terrorism,” the letter claimed.
VVSS has urged the central leadership to remove the graves from Indian soil and relocate them to inaccessible places to stop their veneration and “curb jihadi mentality”.
“Removing these graves will prevent the spread of radical ideology and protect the sanctity of Indian land,” it concluded.
Background:
Maqbool Bhatt, a separatist leader, was executed in 1984 for murder and terrorism. Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013 for his role in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. Both were buried within Tihar Jail after their executions.
