Washington [US], September 28 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Sunday hinted at “something special” in the Middle East, claiming “all are on board” for what he described as a historic opportunity for “greatness.” Trump made the remarks on his social media platform Truth Social, writing, “We have a real chance for GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL, FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!!”
The specifics of Trump’s statement remain unclear, though it comes amid growing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict. The United States recently proposed a 21-point initiative aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas, which erupted after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, killing around 1,200 Israelis. Since then, Israeli bombardment of Gaza has resulted in over 66,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
Speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn last Friday, Trump expressed optimism, saying, “It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza. I think it’s a deal that will get the hostages back. It’s gonna be a deal that will end the war.”
Trump’s remarks follow meetings with Arab leaders during the 80th UN General Assembly, where he described discussions on Gaza as “very successful” despite unresolved differences over Palestinian statehood. He stressed that recognition of a Palestinian state should not be unilateral, arguing such a move would be a “reward” for Hamas. “As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognise a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities,” he said in his UNGA address.
