Washington, DC [US], October 19 (ANI): US Vice President JD Vance reaffirmed that the Trump administration will “never stop fighting for the American people, especially our Armed Forces,” while addressing Marines at Camp Pendleton in Southern California.
Vice President Vance watched with pride on Saturday as Marines fired 155-millimeter artillery shells over a major freeway, describing the demonstration as a “testament to the corps’ strength and unbeatable power,” the New York Times reported.
“Chuck Schumer and the Democrats may have shut down the government, but President Trump is going above and beyond to ensure our brave Marines get the paychecks they deserve. We will never stop fighting for the American people, especially our Armed Forces,” Vance said.
He added, “In the Trump administration, we know that the work you do protecting our country and putting your lives on the line to defend our way of life is at the heart of Marine Corps service.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the display, calling it an “absurd show of force” and “dangerous,” according to the New York Times.
Vance used his speech before hundreds of Marines to attack Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown, referring to it as the “Schumer shutdown,” a jab at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Meanwhile, protesters took to the streets in several US cities—including Los Angeles and San Diego—condemning the Trump administration’s domestic policies and what they described as its consolidation of power.
What the White House had initially framed as a celebration of the country’s 250th anniversary and the strength of the Marines turned into a revealing split-screen moment: while Vance, seen as the political heir to Trump’s movement, showcased military might despite a state governor’s objections, thousands nationwide protested what they viewed as presidential overreach, the New York Times reported.
