Washington DC [US], December 18 (ANI): US President Donald Trump, in a nationally televised address on Wednesday (US local time), outlined what he described as major economic, military and foreign policy achievements of his administration, while sharply criticising the previous Biden administration for inflation and fiscal mismanagement.
Trump said the US economy was being brought “back from the brink of ruin,” blaming the last administration and its allies in Congress for what he called reckless spending that drove prices to historic highs. “They looted our treasury for trillions of dollars, driving up prices and everything at levels never seen before,” he said, adding that his administration was now bringing those prices down “very fast.”
Highlighting the passage of what he called the “big beautiful bill,” Trump claimed the legislation delivered the largest tax cuts in American history, with visible results expected by 2026. He asserted that his administration has already secured a record USD 18 trillion in investment into the United States, translating into jobs, wage increases, factory openings and enhanced national security.
A significant portion of this growth, Trump said, was driven by tariffs. Calling tariffs his “favourite word,” he argued that while other countries had used them successfully against the US for decades, his administration had reversed the trend. “Companies know that if they build in America, there are no tariffs. That’s why they are coming home to the USA in record numbers,” he said, claiming factory and plant construction had reached unprecedented levels.
“We’re poised for an economic boom, the likes of which the world has never seen,” Trump said, also citing upcoming global events hosted by the US, including the FIFA World Cup and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.
On foreign policy, Trump reiterated his claim of having restored American strength and resolved multiple global conflicts. “I restored American strength, settled eight wars in ten months, destroyed the Iran nuclear threat and ended the war in Gaza—bringing, for the first time in 3,000 years, peace to the Middle East,” he said, while also claiming the release of hostages, both living and dead.
The President announced a special “warrior dividend” for US military personnel, stating that more than 1,450,000 service members would receive USD 1,776 each before Christmas, in honour of the nation’s founding year, 1776.
Trump also said he would soon nominate a new Federal Reserve chair, promising to select “someone who believes in lower interest rates by a lot.” He claimed his administration had significantly reduced grocery prices, asserting that the cost of a Thanksgiving turkey was down 33 per cent compared to last year and egg prices had fallen 82 per cent since March.
Addressing healthcare, Trump said funds used for insurance subsidies should go “to the people” rather than insurance companies. On immigration, he reiterated hardline views, singling out Minnesota and alleging that Somali immigrants had “taken over the economics of the state,” which is home to the largest Somali-American community in the US.
Concluding his address, Trump said government must serve “productive, patriotic, hardworking American citizens,” and invited tourists to visit the US for major events in 2026, including the World Cup and the nation’s 250th Independence anniversary.
According to Fox News, the speech comes as Trump launches a renewed push to highlight his economic agenda amid criticism over his administration’s messaging on economic issues. (ANI)
