Kolkata (West Bengal), April 13 (ANI): BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has claimed that more than 400 Hindus have been forced to flee their homes in Murshidabad following recent communal violence in the region.
The violence, which erupted during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, led to the death of three people and torching of police vehicles, prompting the Calcutta High Court to order deployment of central paramilitary forces to assist the state police.
🔹 Adhikari’s Allegations:
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Adhikari wrote:
“More than 400 Hindus from Dhulian, Murshidabad, driven by fear of religiously driven bigots, were forced to flee across the river and take shelter at Par Lalpur High School, Deonapur-Sovapur GP, Baisnabnagar, Malda.”
He alleged religious persecution and blamed the Trinamool Congress government’s “appeasement politics”, which he said has “emboldened radical elements”.
“Religious persecution in Bengal is real. Appeasement politics of TMC has emboldened radical elements. Hindus are being hunted, our people are running for their lives in their own land! Shame on the State Govt for allowing this breakdown of law & order.”
Adhikari also shared videos and images of the displaced individuals, some of whom claimed that their houses had been burnt and police failed to intervene.
He urged the Border Security Force, state police, and district administration to ensure the safe return of the displaced families and restore peace.
🔹 BSF Deployment and Court Monitoring:
Following the violence, five BSF companies were deployed in Murshidabad to support the state police, after an order from the Calcutta High Court.
IG South Bengal Frontier, Karni Singh Shekhawat, said:
“We are here to help the police, not for independent action. We will act according to the demands of the state police. We hope that peace will be restored here soon.”
The High Court has also instructed both the Centre and the Mamata Banerjee government to submit detailed reports on the situation, with the next hearing scheduled for April 17.
As per police sources, the situation in Murshidabad is now under control.
