New Delhi [India], February 3 (ANI): Following the announcement of the India-US trade deal, BJP National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauding his leadership and saying the agreement would open new opportunities for the nation’s youth and give fresh momentum to the Indian economy.
Taking to X, Nabin said the deepening relationship between India and the United States—“the world’s two powerful democracies”—would have a “very positive and far-reaching impact.” He added that the decision would energise initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, while creating new avenues for growth and employment for young Indians.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also welcomed the deal, calling India and the US “natural partners” and “the world’s truest democracies.” In a post on X, Rijiju said the trade partnership reflects mutual trust and opportunity, benefiting citizens, farmers, youth, and industries in both countries. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for strengthening India’s global engagement.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed delight over the reduction in tariffs, describing the agreement as a historic moment for the India-US economic partnership. He said the lowering of duties on Made in India products to 18 per cent would enhance global competitiveness and boost exports, while creating new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, startups, and youth.
Chouhan added that the deal would promote production, innovation, and skill-based employment, while giving Indian talent greater recognition on the global stage. He said the agreement would elevate India-US relations to new heights and accelerate the vision of a developed India.
Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it was “wonderful” to speak with his “dear friend President Trump” and welcomed the reduction in tariffs on Made in India products to 18 per cent. The Prime Minister thanked President Trump on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians and said that when two large economies and the world’s largest democracies work together, it unlocks immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi also said President Trump’s leadership is vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity, and expressed his commitment to working closely with him to take the India-US partnership to unprecedented heights.
US President Donald Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, said he and Prime Minister Modi had agreed to a trade deal under which the United States would lower reciprocal tariffs from 25 per cent to 18 per cent. Trump described PM Modi as one of his greatest friends and a respected leader, saying both leaders “get things done.”
Trump further said India would reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers against the United States and significantly increase purchases of American energy, technology, agricultural, and other products. He added that the strengthened partnership would further enhance ties between the two countries.
India and the US had made significant progress on the trade deal in recent months, with expectations of an agreement building steadily. The announcement has been welcomed across the political spectrum as a major boost to bilateral economic relations. (ANI)
