Washington DC [US], September 16 (ANI): President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that a victory in the US Supreme Court case over his sweeping global tariffs would give America “tremendous” negotiating power and make it “by far the richest country anywhere in the world.”
Speaking before his upcoming visit to the UK, Trump credited his tariff policy with resolving multiple international disputes. “If we win the Supreme Court case … we’ll have tremendous power to negotiate. By using tariffs, I settled seven wars. Four of them were because I was able to do tariffs,” he said.
The case stems from a federal appeals court ruling in August that struck down several Trump-era tariffs, including the “Liberation Day” tariffs and measures against China and India. Judges concluded that Trump exceeded his authority by using emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), stressing that the Constitution grants Congress—not the president—the power to levy tariffs.
The Supreme Court last week agreed to hear the case, which could reshape presidential authority on trade policy. Oral arguments are scheduled for early November, with the court saying it will expedite its decision. Until then, the tariffs remain in effect. (PTI)
