Yokohama [Japan], January 14 (ANI): Yokohama offers attractive scenery throughout all four seasons, but the city is especially renowned in winter for its fantastic and dynamic illumination shows known as “Yorunoyo.” Enhanced by clean, transparent winter air, the displays have received high acclaim and earned Yokohama a nomination as one of Japan’s major night-view destinations.
Takanori Koshida of Yokohama City said the city’s reputation for night views played a key role in the recognition. He noted that illuminated landmarks such as the Red Brick Warehouse and the historic Sankeien Garden were highly evaluated during the nomination process. He added that Yokohama City will continue focusing on enhancing the charm of its night views.
Arisa Koguchi of Yokohama City said Yorunoyo has begun contributing to the activation of the city’s nighttime economy. She explained that “Highlight Yokohama” is a five-minute spectacle combining illumination and music, with 46 facilities participating this year, the highest number in the event’s history.
Koguchi said the event at Osanbashi, known as Whale Land, features projection mapping of a 25-meter-long whale, offering an immersive viewing experience and described as the largest of its kind in Japan. At Yamashita Park, a light art installation based on a flower motif spans 250 meters as an interactive digital artwork, allowing visitors to experience the moment of flowers blooming. She added that illumination reacts to people’s movements, creating a fantastical experience of interacting with light.
One visitor said the night view from Osanbashi was impressive, praising the collaboration between the city’s night scenery and projection mapping as extremely beautiful and among the best in Japan.
With its long history shaped by cultural and business development, Yokohama is expected to continue enhancing its appeal to delight residents and visitors from around the world. (ANI)
