KYIV, Ukraine, December 27 (ANI): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday reported that Russian attacks on Kyiv continue, with nearly 500 drones and 40 missiles—including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles—fired since Friday night.
Zelenskyy wrote on X that the primary targets have been Kyiv’s energy facilities and civilian infrastructure. He confirmed that some residential buildings have been damaged, and rescuers are searching for a person trapped under the rubble of one structure. Electricity and heating remain unavailable in some districts, and firefighting efforts are ongoing. Repair crews have already begun work at certain energy facilities, while others remain sheltered until air raid alerts cease.
“The primary target is Kyiv—energy facilities and civilian infrastructure. Regrettably, there have been hits, and ordinary residential buildings have been damaged. Rescuers are searching for a person trapped under the rubble of one of them. In some districts, electricity and heating are currently unavailable. Firefighting efforts are underway, and repair crews will start work as soon as air raid alerts stop,” Zelenskyy said.
He criticized Russia’s response to international proposals to end the war, stating that while Russian representatives engage in talks, their actions on the ground—using Kinzhals and drones—speak for them. Zelenskyy accused President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle of seeking to prolong the conflict and inflict suffering on Ukraine.
“If Russia turns even the Christmas and New Year period into a time of destroyed homes, burned apartments, and ruined power plants, then this activity must be met with truly strong steps. The United States, Europe, and our partners have this capability; the key is to use it,” he said.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to international leaders supporting Ukraine’s defense and emphasized the importance of timely air defense supplies to protect civilians. He said he would hold discussions with European leaders, the Canadian Prime Minister, and U.S. President Donald Trump to ensure continued support for Ukraine’s security.
Earlier on Friday night, Kyiv was targeted in a large-scale missile and drone attack, with multiple explosions reported across the capital and surrounding regions, one day ahead of Zelenskyy’s scheduled meeting with President Trump in Florida. According to the Kyiv Independent, the city was hit by a ballistic missile assault, including multiple Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, four Iskander ballistic missiles, and several Kalibr cruise missiles.
Zelenskyy’s meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, December 28, 2025, is expected to focus on a 20-point peace plan and potential U.S. security guarantees, as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the nearly four-year-long war.
