Washington, DC [US], March 26 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has intensified his rhetoric against Tehran, asserting that Iranian negotiators are “begging” for a diplomatic resolution despite publicly stating they are only “reviewing” a US proposal.
In a series of remarks, Trump claimed that Iran has been “militarily obliterated” and warned that the country has “zero chance of a comeback.”
The US president dismissed Tehran’s official stance as “wrong” and urged Iranian leadership to engage in negotiations without delay. He issued a stark warning that if the current impasse continues, “there is no turning back, and it won’t be pretty,” underscoring escalating tensions.
These comments came shortly after Trump suggested that Tehran is seeking a deal to end the month-long conflict, even as senior Iranian officials publicly ruled out negotiations with Washington.
Trump, whose public messaging has alternated between threats and conciliatory signals, said back-channel talks are underway but claimed Iranian officials are reluctant to acknowledge them due to internal security concerns.
“They are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly,” Trump said during a dinner with Republican members of Congress.
He further alleged that Iranian officials fear publicly admitting to such talks. “They’re afraid to say it because they think they’ll be killed by their own people,” he said, adding, “They’re also afraid they’ll be killed by us.”
However, Iran’s senior leadership has firmly rejected these claims. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state television that Tehran has no intention of engaging in negotiations under current conditions.
“We seek an end to the war on our own terms and in a way that ensures it will not be repeated,” Araghchi said.
Diplomatic sources in Islamabad indicated that Pakistan has conveyed a 15-point American peace plan to Tehran. However, Iran’s state-run Press TV cited an unnamed official as saying the proposal had been “rejected.”
Reinforcing the administration’s stance, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump “does not bluff” and is prepared to take strong action against Iran if diplomacy fails.
Meanwhile, offering a contrasting perspective, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday that signs of openness to dialogue from both sides present a “glimmer of hope” for a peaceful resolution. (ANI)
