Mumbai, April 12 (ANI): Iran’s Consul General in Mumbai, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, highlighted the role of major global powers, particularly India, in promoting regional stability amid escalating tensions following the collapse of peace talks in Islamabad.
Emphasizing New Delhi’s commitment to diplomacy, the envoy said India, along with China and Russia, has prioritized global peace over military intervention.
“India, China, and Russia, by refraining from intervening in the conflict despite risks to their own interests, have demonstrated that they seek peace. They did not consider the American attack to be justified and did not support it, nor did they place themselves in a position to assist Iran militarily. Rather, they sought to promote peace and stabilize economic markets,” Motlagh told ANI.
The Consul General added that despite these efforts, de-escalation remains elusive due to what he described as a lack of reciprocity from Washington.
“However, it appears that, thus far, they have not succeeded in persuading the United States. It is nevertheless expected of these three major powers that they exert influence to convince the United States to cease its warmongering and to pressure the Israeli regime,” he said.
Addressing broader geopolitical implications, Motlagh warned that the normalization of targeted violence by certain global actors threatens international order.
“Ironically, today it is the United States and Israel themselves that are proposing assassination as a solution. Until these issues are addressed, the world will unfortunately continue to grapple with unrestrained conflict and warmongering,” he said.
The envoy also expressed concern over recent military actions in Lebanon and criticized what he described as double standards regarding nuclear capabilities.
“The U.S., which possesses a substantial nuclear arsenal and is the only country to have used nuclear weapons twice, and a regime that unlawfully possesses nuclear weapons, have both attacked a country such as ours. Yet, they tell us that we must not possess such capabilities,” he said.
Commenting on the recent diplomatic efforts in Pakistan, Motlagh said the talks failed to produce results due to a lack of adherence to pre-agreed terms.
“Regarding the talks, they did not even adhere to their own conditions, and the ceasefire negotiations reached a deadlock,” he noted.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s departure from Islamabad confirmed the diplomatic impasse after negotiations with Iran stalled.
Following the talks, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran had utilized all available diplomatic avenues, but stressed that progress depends on recognition of Iran’s “legitimate rights and interests.”
Baqaei added that despite significant losses, Iran remains determined to safeguard its national interests. According to Tasnim News Agency, citing an informed source, Iran presented “reasonable proposals” during the Islamabad negotiations, placing the onus for a breakthrough on the United States. (ANI)
