BEIJING, May 12 (ANI) — Iran’s Ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, has expressed support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “four-point proposal” aimed at promoting lasting security and shared development in West Asia and the Gulf region.
In a post on X ahead of US President Donald Trump’s scheduled visit to China this week, the Iranian envoy said the Islamic Republic had expressed its readiness to support the Chinese initiative.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced its readiness to support the Chinese President’s four-point plan aimed at establishing lasting security and shared development in the Persian Gulf region, an issue that was also emphasised during the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries,” the post stated.
The envoy added that the issue was discussed during recent talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
According to Yu Jing, Xi’s proposal focuses on regional peace, sovereignty, adherence to international law, and coordinated economic development.
The first point of the proposal calls for peaceful coexistence through the establishment of a “common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable” security framework for the Middle East and Persian Gulf region.
The second point emphasizes respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the protection of regional institutions, infrastructure, and personnel.
The third point highlights adherence to international law and warns against allowing the international system to descend into what China described as the “law of the jungle.”
The fourth point advocates balancing development and security through regional cooperation aimed at supporting economic growth and long-term stability across the Middle East and Gulf region.
The remarks come ahead of Trump’s planned three-day visit to Beijing from May 13 to May 15 for high-level meetings with Xi amid heightened tensions in West Asia and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Iran and regional powers.
China has increasingly positioned itself as a diplomatic stakeholder in the Gulf region in recent years, promoting dialogue-based approaches to regional security and economic cooperation. (ANI)
