NEW DELHI, May 19 (ANI): India successfully met its highest-ever peak electricity demand of 257.37 GW without any shortfall, marking a new milestone in the country’s power sector, according to the Union Power Ministry.
The ministry said the peak demand, recorded at 3:42 p.m. on Monday, surpassed the previous high of 256.1 GW successfully met on April 25, 2026.
In a post on X, the ministry stated that the demand was met without disruption and added that the country also achieved a record non-solar peak demand of 247.21 GW at 10:29 p.m.
“The power availability in the country is sufficient and robust mechanisms are in place to meet the summer demand,” the ministry said.
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal also highlighted the achievement in a separate post, noting that the latest figure reflects India’s strengthening power infrastructure and preparedness to handle rising electricity consumption.
The government said the national power system remains stable, with adequate generation capacity and operational mechanisms in place to manage increasing demand during peak summer conditions. (ANI)
