OSLO, Norway, May 19 (ANI): Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on Tuesday said the Nordic countries share several strategic objectives with India, including strengthening the rules-based international order and advancing climate action through sustained multilateral cooperation.
Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Nordic leaders following the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, Orpo said the global order is currently facing geopolitical shifts, turbulence, and uncertainty.
“In these turbulent times, we continue to strengthen partnerships that are based on trust and mutual respect, as well as shared democratic values and interests,” Orpo said.
“The Nordics share many objectives with India, for example, strengthening the rules-based international order and responding to climate change with sustained multilateral action,” he added.
Orpo also announced that Finland will host the next India-Nordic Summit.
The summit brought together leaders from India, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden to review progress and identify new areas of cooperation amid evolving global challenges.
The meeting was attended by Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Frostadottir, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Ahead of the summit, Modi and Orpo also held bilateral talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade, digitalization, emerging technologies, and sustainability.
The leaders announced that India and Finland will jointly host the World Circular Economy Forum in September in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides reviewed cooperation in sectors including artificial intelligence, 5G and 6G technologies, quantum computing, renewable energy, space, innovation, education, and mobility.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to doubling bilateral trade by 2030 and emphasized the importance of early implementation of the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.
The summit builds on previous India-Nordic meetings held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022.
