ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia, June 23 (ANI) — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday visited the Mongol Refinery Project and reviewed the progress of construction work while interacting with Indian and Mongolian personnel at the site.
Jaishankar visited the project site alongside Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Industry and Mining Minister Gongor Damdinnyam.
In a post on X, he highlighted that the India-Mongolia flagship friendship project is advancing steadily and reviewed the status of ongoing work with the teams involved.
He also expressed appreciation for the dedication of the workforce engaged in the project.
“Interacted with the Indian and Mongolian workforce at the project site. Thanked them for their dedication and commitment in realising such a major project under challenging conditions,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, Jaishankar held a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Mongolia during his ongoing official visit.
In a post on X, he said he met Speaker of the State Great Khural Sandag Byambatsogt and welcomed his support for India-Mongolia parliamentary exchanges and friendship.
“A pleasure to meet Speaker of the State Great Khural Sandag Byambatsogt today. Welcome his strong support for India-Mongolia parliamentary exchanges and friendship. Reiterated support to deepening our people-centric development partnership,” he wrote.
He also met Mongolia’s Education Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan and former President N. Enkhbayar, describing the interactions as important for strengthening bilateral ties.
Jaishankar arrived in Mongolia on Monday as part of a four-day diplomatic tour covering Mongolia and the Republic of Korea to deepen India’s strategic and cultural engagement with the region.
Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, he called on Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He noted the momentum built during President Ukhnaa’s visit to India last year and emphasized a shared vision for strengthening bilateral relations.
“Value his guidance on advancing our strong cooperation in a wide range of sectors. Fully agree with him that the greatest friendship is spiritual friendship,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
During bilateral talks with Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh, discussions focused on expanding cooperation in mining, clean energy, agriculture, education, security, and multilateral engagement.
Jaishankar also visited the Gandan Monastery and met its Chief Abbot, Khamba Nomun Khan Geshe Lharampa D. Javzandorj, highlighting the monastery’s role in strengthening cultural and spiritual ties between the two countries.
The External Affairs Minister’s visit to Mongolia is part of a broader four-day tour of Mongolia and the Republic of Korea from June 22 to 25.
