Moscow [Russia], June 18 (ANI): At a press conference in Moscow, Russian officials introduced the report Shaping a New Platform for Global Growth, prepared by the Centre for Cross-Sectoral Expertise “Third Rome” under the academic guidance of Maksim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office. The report outlines a strategic vision for the global economy and will be a key topic at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which begins on June 18.
The report delves into major global economic challenges and highlights the expanding influence of BRICS+, the Global South (referred to as the “Global Majority”), and their partners in shaping future economic frameworks.
Drawing from Russia’s 2025 initiative titled The Future of the World: A New Platform for Global Growth, the report incorporates insights from essay submissions by both emerging and seasoned professionals from 102 countries. These essays addressed four core themes: human capital, technology, environmental sustainability, and connectivity, according to TV BRICS.
Natalia Stapran, Director of the Centre for Cross-Sectoral Expertise, emphasized the significance of the project:
“Seven hundred submissions from over 100 countries—this is truly the voice of the global majority. In this regard, the project is unique. It demonstrates how trends are shifting and how those who were previously in the shadows are now coming to the fore,” she said.
Stapran noted that countries of the Global South are laying the foundation for a new economic model:
“The world is not simply changing—it is entering a new state in which resilience, digital transformation, and a new architecture of international relations are key,” she remarked.
Economist Joseph Potvin highlighted the geopolitical shift in economic discourse:
“Today, the real challenges are being discussed in the countries of Asia, Latin America, and Africa. This is the global majority,” he said, noting that the project’s strength lies in grassroots-driven ideas, ranging from education reform to economic justice.
Journalist Lucy Morgan Edwards stressed the importance of inclusive global dialogue:
“What Russia is doing within this project is an attempt to truly hear what concerns people in different parts of the world,” she observed. Edwards added that fostering such dialogue is especially vital at a time when trust among nations is eroding and traditional diplomatic channels are strained.
By centering the voices and priorities of citizens from the Global South, the report aims to chart a path toward a more equitable and sustainable international economic order, setting a forward-looking agenda for the SPIEF. (ANI)
