India shares close and longstanding relations with Mauritius, an island nation in the western Indian Ocean, rooted in common history, demography, and culture. A significant factor in the special relationship is that nearly 70 percent of Mauritius’s 1.2 million population is of Indian origin (with 28 percent Creole, 3 percent Sino-Mauritian, and 1 percent Franco-Mauritian).
Since 2005, India has consistently been among Mauritius’s largest trading partners. During the financial year 2023–24, Indian exports to Mauritius stood at USD 778.03 million, while Mauritian exports to India were USD 73.10 million, bringing total bilateral trade to USD 851.13 million. Trade between the two countries has seen substantial growth over the past 18 years, rising from USD 206.76 million in 2005–06 to USD 851.13 million in 2023–24. (ANI)
