New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar met with USA Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K Andrews to express gratitude for the enduring partnership between Israel and the United States and for US President Donald Trump’s leadership during the recent conflict with Iran.
Taking to social media platform X, Azar stated, “I met USA Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K Andrews to express my personal & Israel’s gratitude for our partnership & for President Donald Trump’s leadership, which were essential in removing the Iranian regime’s existential threats over Israel.”
The statement comes amid rising tensions in West Asia, following violations of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. Earlier in the day, US President Trump had condemned both nations for breaching the truce he had announced, urging restraint and calling their continued attacks irresponsible.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” He later added, “ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!”
Speaking to reporters, Trump criticized both countries, stating, “They (Iran) violated, but Israel violated it too. As soon as we made the deal, Israel came out and dropped a load of bombs… We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”
He further asserted that Iran would not be able to rebuild its nuclear facilities following recent US airstrikes. “Iran will never be able to rebuild its nuclear facilities. That place is under rock. That place is demolished. The B2 pilots did their job better than anybody could have imagined,” Trump said.
Earlier, Trump had declared a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, outlining a phased agreement. According to his statement, Iran would initiate the ceasefire, followed by Israel, and the 12-Day War would officially end after 24 hours.
Reuters reported that the ceasefire was facilitated by Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who secured Tehran’s agreement after a phone call with Iranian officials. The diplomatic engagement followed Trump’s conversation with Qatar’s Emir, during which he informed him of Israel’s acceptance of the ceasefire terms and sought help in convincing Iran.
However, the truce quickly unraveled. According to The Times of Israel, Iran launched missiles into Beersheba, killing four and injuring several others. In response, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out a limited strike on a radar installation north of Tehran. Reports indicate that most Israeli jets were recalled after Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on a symbolic retaliatory strike to avoid further escalation.
The current crisis began on June 13 when Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion” targeting Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. Iran retaliated with “Operation True Promise 3,” a coordinated drone and missile attack on Israeli energy facilities. The United States joined the conflict with “Operation Midnight Hammer,” conducting precision strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran responded by launching missiles at American military bases in Qatar and Iraq.
The ongoing situation highlights the fragile nature of diplomacy in the region and the crucial role of international mediation efforts in preventing full-scale escalation. (ANI)
